I don’t know exactly how to knit… but I am going to learn! I am joining a very special cause called “Knit One, Save One” by SaveTheChildren.org.au. Just by knitting a 20cm square you can help to save the life of a child! They don’t ask for it to be perfect, they just need a 20cm knitted square preferably made of 100% wool, none of that nylon stuff because it can be flammable.
SaveTheChildren.org.au need 80,000 knitted squares – enough to make 5,000 blankets to go to countries like Cambodia and India. I am always looking out for ways to help people and you can help too.
Rally some friends and family together for some coffee and cake while knitting for a great cause! Below are some helpful links to get you started;

* Details below from SaveTheChildren.org.au –
All you need to do is:
1. Use whatever wool and needles you have and cast on enough stitches to make the square measure 20cm wide
2. Keep knitting until its 20cm long
3. Cast off leaving a long (30cm approx) piece of wool at the end (so we can sew the squares together),
4. Then send your completed squares to us (see below for address details).
As a guide, we use size 6mm needles and a ball of 8 ply wool. We cast on between 30 and 35 stitches (depending on the tension) and knit in plain.
If you’re really keen (or extra talented) you could knit a whole blanket. Just sew together 16 squares (4 x 4) and send it to us to admire and pass on to a child in need.
We’re not looking for perfection; we’re looking for knitted squares. So send us whatever you make because every bit counts.
We prefer 100% wool because it is more fire retardant than acrylic.
There is no limit to the number of squares you can knit, colours or patterns you can use. Let your creativity go wild, have some fun and know that you are making an important contribution to helping children around the world Survive to Five.
Please send your squares to us at:

Don’t forget to have fun…
We’re serious, we need 80,000 squares so we’ve thought of every opportunity for you to knit:
* Knit and Sip – Invite a group of friends for morning tea (or a glass of champagne) and before you know it, you’ll have made a blanket – or two!
* Twit and Knit – tell all your crafty friends about Knit One Save One via twitter or Facebook and help spread the word (whilst knitting of course).
* A Stitch In Time – wherever you can – on the train, in a tram, in the park or in the dark – every little stitch helps.
* Tuesday Night Knitting Club – book clubs are so yesterday. PS you can make it any night.
* Hang out with our online community at our Knit One Save One blog.
